Wild Woody's
Hot on a Trail
WALK THE JERSEY SHORE IN CAPE MAY COUNTY

Recognizing the importance of food and fitness for good health and well

being, a new weekly column begins this week.  A diet, consisting of low fat,

low salt, high fiber foods will get you on the road to good health. But that

is only part of the way up the road. Exercise is also part of the path. One

of the easiest and best ways to exercise is walking. If you were thinking

about getting out and walking, Wild Woody will give you a reason to start

now.

A 30-minute walk may be just what you need for exercise, stress relief and to

get to know Cape May County more intimately.

You will be very pleasantly surprised with the many beautiful walks and

the birds, wild flowers and grasses that you will encounter.

Not only will you see the county in a new way, you will be energized and

rejuvenated. Your body will thank you. Your immune system  will benefit .

Walking can help lower your blood pressure and cholesterol, help you lose

weight, and tone your muscles, including the heart muscle. It can help

prevent osteoporosis.

Walking rescues your emotions. If you are feeling tired, bored, stressed

or angry, just get outside and take a walk. A good brisk walk will release

endorphins into the blood stream. Endorphins keep one feeling happy and

hopeful: get rid of those negative emotions. Notice how you feel when you

begin to exercise and then how you feel when you have completed a walk.

Walking gets the blood moving around your body and raises energy levels.

Take a walk in the morning as the sun rises, at lunch time, or in the

evening as the world is quieting down. A walk in sight of the ocean, a stream

or a pond is excellent for releasing stress and anger.

We have found some easy 1-2 mile walks and calculated the mileage for

you. WILD WOODY'S HOT ON A TRAIL will include a description of the walk,  the trail

condition ( paved, wood, cement or sandy),  photos of the area, and a map for

locating the walk. Included will be available parking for bikes or cars,

suitability for the disabled, and availability of public toilet facilities.
